Software development frameworks: .NET Core 2.0 Released

What new software development technologies have Microsoft released?

Recently, Microsoft have released a wide selection of new technologies, making the whole software development team at Audacia extremely excited:

  • .NET Standard 2.0
  • .NET Core 2.0
  • Entity Framework Core 2.0
  • ASP.NET Core 2.0
  • Visual Studio 2017 update 15.3

Since .NET Core (or .NET vNext as it was known at the time) was open-sourced it's development has flown, as evidenced by the list of contributions to the 2.0.0 release. The fact that .NET Core 2.0, and the other related parts of the Core platform, have only been in preview since May of this year, shows an incredibly impressive velocity for the .NET Core platform, and how hard Microsoft are working (especially Immo Landweth and his team) in the background to make sure that all of the .NET runtimes can keep pace.

The release of .NET Standard 2.0 has brought .NET Core 2.0 in line with .NET Framework 4.6.1.

On top of all of that, Microsoft have a three day event planned for this year's .NET Conf - which kicks off on September 19th. It's taking place in Stockholm, Sweden, but will be live streamed (for those who can't make it to the event).

Welcome to the wonderful world of ubiquitous .NET support.
